Welcome to the Marine and Environmental Genomics Lab at Jackson State University

The Marine and Environmental Genomics Lab is focused on using a variety of cutting-edge, molecular ‘omics tools to better understand the interactions between plants, animals, and the environment. Our research uses a wide range of tools including environmental DNA (eDNA) based methods, transcriptomics, and whole genome sequencing to address questions in ecology and evolution with a particular focus on crustaceans.  With a focus on the student mentoring, students entering the lab are encouraged to design and implement their own projects that complement and expand the research taking place in the lab. They routinely present their work at national and international conferences while gaining experience in grantsmanship, data analysis, and scientific writing.
